¡Bienvenidos al curso de español!

Welcome  to the Intensive Spanish Beginner's Course!

Course Objectives:
The Objectives of this Beginner's Spanish Course is to provide  an introduction to a basic skill level of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking in the target language.

The main objective is to enable the students  to learn and obtain information necessary to assist  the Spanish-Speaking population during every-day police-work.

At the completion of the course you will be able to:
  • understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  • introduce yourself and others, ask and answer questions about personal details such as where a person lives, what he or she knows and objects  he or she may have in his/her posession.
  • interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
  • communicate using grammatical structures in the NOW and the PAST
While grammar is an integral part of a language course, the instructor is only giving very basic information; the emphasis will be on communication skills! (Learners are encouraged to be proactive and find resources that will enhance and further the understanding of all aspects of the language.)

Afterthoughts After forty hours of teaching and learning I decided to add this post with everybody's comments and reactions...  Experience at the International House's Spanish Conversation Hour.  "As promised, I did attend the conversation hour at the International House and wanted to report back to you on my experience.  I just want to thank you for recommending this.  I had a wonderful experience there.  I was greeted warmly and it was very nice that I was able to listen and learn.  The group was very helpful when I struggled and extremely kind to me as a beginner.   I thought I would feel intimidated when listening and trying to respond but I did not, I just listened and focused on what I heard kind of like the test portion where you played the song and we had to fill in the blanks.   A t first,  I was nervous at speaking  but after while it was just like having a conversation with you or a friend.  I ...
